The Best Kids Outdoor Gear for Cold Weather

November 11, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

We were gifted XTRATUF TUFS toddler boots to test out and review on the blog. As always, all opinions expressed are our own.

šŸŽ¶ It’s that time of year šŸŽ¶… when I start to think about how I’m going to fit six sets of snow gear on our coat rack, and I think that I should reallyyy buy a washable rug for the entryway.

Living in Minnesota, we get to experienceĀ allĀ the seasons in their natural beauty–and we also needĀ allĀ the gear to do that. I’ve tried out quite a few brands of kids’ gear through the years. Some have lasted and some haven’t worked well/have needed replacing after a kid or two. I’ve tried different price points (both purchased by myself and via hand-me-downs) and found where we can economize versus where it pays off to pay more.… Read More »

A Decluttering Journey: The Next 100 Items (and Beyond)

May 16, 2022 by Claire Leave a Comment

A lot of new cleaning products I gave away this weekend; I’ve given away over a dozen items in the past 72 hours, and trashed many more.

In retrospect, I think it’s a bit funny that I wrote a post after the first 100 items I decluttered, like that would be a sizeable portion of the project. Quite the opposite–the more I decluttered, the more I saw that should go! I stopped keeping track after the next 100 items. I would estimate that I’m now somewhere between 400-500 items gone, and MANY more still to go.

After getting rid of obvious trash, irreparably broken things, or things that hadn’t been touched in years, there’s a whole other category of stuff that I’m slogging through now. It’s things that are still pretty and/or useful, just not to me.… Read More »

17 Camping Essentials that You Don’t Want to Forget

October 23, 2018 by Claire Leave a Comment

About to head off on a camping trip, but wondering what you've forgotten? Check out this handy checklist of the most-forgotten camping essentials!Happy Tuesday! This week has been off to a busy start in the Walker household. I started some new volunteer work and new online classes, while E has been busy at work. And I’m tidying up the apartment after a fun weekend spent camping with my dad.

Instead of simply recapping our trip to St. Croix State Park, today I’m sharing a handy checklist of camping essentials that we definitely could have used whilst packing the car last Friday. In the past couple of years, E and I have camped all over the country. But my experience doesn’t mean that I’m immune to forgetting even the most basic of items!… Read More »

Camping in Wild River State Park, MN

October 7, 2018 by Claire Leave a Comment

Here's how we spent a weekend camping and hiking in Wild River State Park on the St. Croix! It's an excellent location to see the fall foliage in Minnesota. We went camping last weekend for the first time in forever! The last time we camped was on our way out to California in 2017…Ā thatĀ feels like a long time ago. So we packed our car on Friday afternoon and drove up to Wild River State Park. It’s northeast of the Twin Cities on the St. Croix River (and the Wisconsin border). Wild River is not the most well-known park in that area, but it’s just as beautiful with the fall foliage IMO.

Is this “travel post” just an excuse to show you gorgeous pictures of autumn in MN and try to convince you to visit? Pretty much. No shame, I love where I live and I love sharing it with you :P… Read More »

Visiting Glacier National Park in the Winter

April 10, 2018 by Claire Leave a Comment

Today I thought I’d share a travel post as I haven’t in quite a while! We saw some beautiful places on our road trip a couple of weeks ago, but the prettiest by far was Glacier National Park.

On our way back to Minnesota, we drove four full days with a two-day break in the middle to visit Glacier. It was winter, so much of the park was closed, but we found some open roads and trails to make the most of our short visit.… Read More »
