My Favorite Memory from Sydney

January 27, 2026 by Claire Leave a Comment

I shared a bunch of posts from our Australia trip last year about the big parts of our trip–where we stayed in the city and Cronulla, visiting Taronga Zoo and Wattamolla Beach–but whenever I tell people about our trip, there’s always one everyday moment that comes to mind. (And yes, I do still talk my parents’ and sister’s ears off about Sydney. Just priming them to move there with me someday :P)

It was a rainy Thursday afternoon in Cronulla, cold for Australian summer (about 70F, lol). We had just spent a couple of hours relaxing at the beach a couple blocks from our apartment, digging in the sand and watching surfers catch the big waves. There’s a nice playground right next to the beach so naturally, we had to stop there to play on our way back. The kids played, the baby napped and Eric and I chatted for a bit.… Read More »

Colorado With Kids: Hiking at Artist Point

September 4, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

You can’t go to Boulder and not hike in the mountains. It’s like visiting Hawaii and not going to the beach. Yes, our top priority while visiting was connecting with Eric’s family–but my second priority was definitely going into the mountains and this time, bringing our older kids. In 2022, they were 1&2 years old. So when Eric and I went for a hike with a friend, they stayed at home with the grandparents!

We decided to take our now-4 & 6-year olds hiking at Artist Point (a 20ish minute drive from home base) on a weekday to avoid the heavy weekend traffic. Naturally, we brought the nursing baby too, and also Eric’s dad joined us. Our toddler stayed at home with Grandma to soak up all the one-on-one attention :D… Read More »

Colorado With Kids: Visiting the Denver Zoo

September 1, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

Is there anything quite like a day at the zoo with little kids? Something I love about having babies and/or toddlers is their pure joy and fascination with simple things. Whether it’s trying an ice cream sandwich for the first time, finding a new wildflower at the park or visiting a new place, everything is new and exciting to them and it just makes your life 100000x more fun as a parent!

Even my too-cool-for-everything six-year-old enjoyed our trip to the Denver Zoo. They have all of the “typical” zoo animals: lions, tigers, hyenas, elephants, etc. that we don’t have at the Minnesota Zoo. Which I also love, but it’s fun to see animals that little kids recognize too. … Read More »

Colorado With Kids: WOW Children’s Museum Review

August 25, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

We recently returned from a weeklong trip to Boulder—where Eric grew up—and I’ll be sharing some highlights over the next few weeks. Eric and I spent a LOT of time in the Boulder area in college. However, we’ve only visited twice with kids. Our itinerary looks a bit different with a baby, 2-, 4-, and 6-year-old than it did in our early 20s!

Our first outing of the trip was to the WOW Children’s Museum in Lafayette. The two older kids enjoyed it during our last visit in 2022, and they were excited to go back. I was worried it might be a bit “young” for my 6-year-old, but he found plenty of things to do!… Read More »

A Week in Sydney: Visiting Royal National Park

March 9, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

On our last day in Australia, we woke up to eighty degrees and a beautiful sunny day after a couple days of cool, drizzly weather. It was the perfect weather for visiting Royal National Park, just south of Cronulla, for a morning at Wattamolla Beach.

Originally, I had wanted to visit the Blue Mountains while in Sydney. But with four little kids and the mountains being over an hour drive from both of our lodgings, we decided instead to keep it simple and visit a closer park. I’d love to see the Blue Mountains someday, but keeping our drive time short was the right move (Eric wasn’t particularly enjoying the “wrong” side of the road :P)… Read More »
