Colorado With Kids: Hiking at Artist Point

September 4, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

You can’t go to Boulder and not hike in the mountains. It’s like visiting Hawaii and not going to the beach. Yes, our top priority while visiting was connecting with Eric’s family–but my second priority was definitely going into the mountains and this time, bringing our older kids. In 2022, they were 1&2 years old. So when Eric and I went for a hike with a friend, they stayed at home with the grandparents!

We decided to take our now-4 & 6-year olds hiking at Artist Point (a 20ish minute drive from home base) on a weekday to avoid the heavy weekend traffic. Naturally, we brought the nursing baby too, and also Eric’s dad joined us. Our toddler stayed at home with Grandma to soak up all the one-on-one attention :D… Read More »

Colorado With Kids: Visiting the Denver Zoo

September 1, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

Is there anything quite like a day at the zoo with little kids? Something I love about having babies and/or toddlers is their pure joy and fascination with simple things. Whether it’s trying an ice cream sandwich for the first time, finding a new wildflower at the park or visiting a new place, everything is new and exciting to them and it just makes your life 100000x more fun as a parent!

Even my too-cool-for-everything six-year-old enjoyed our trip to the Denver Zoo. They have all of the “typical” zoo animals: lions, tigers, hyenas, elephants, etc. that we don’t have at the Minnesota Zoo. Which I also love, but it’s fun to see animals that little kids recognize too. … Read More »

Colorado With Kids: WOW Children’s Museum Review

August 25, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

We recently returned from a weeklong trip to Boulder—where Eric grew up—and I’ll be sharing some highlights over the next few weeks. Eric and I spent a LOT of time in the Boulder area in college. However, we’ve only visited twice with kids. Our itinerary looks a bit different with a baby, 2-, 4-, and 6-year-old than it did in our early 20s!

Our first outing of the trip was to the WOW Children’s Museum in Lafayette. The two older kids enjoyed it during our last visit in 2022, and they were excited to go back. I was worried it might be a bit “young” for my 6-year-old, but he found plenty of things to do!… Read More »

Camping in Wild River State Park, MN

October 7, 2018 by Claire Leave a Comment

Here's how we spent a weekend camping and hiking in Wild River State Park on the St. Croix! It's an excellent location to see the fall foliage in Minnesota. We went camping last weekend for the first time in forever! The last time we camped was on our way out to California in 2017… that feels like a long time ago. So we packed our car on Friday afternoon and drove up to Wild River State Park. It’s northeast of the Twin Cities on the St. Croix River (and the Wisconsin border). Wild River is not the most well-known park in that area, but it’s just as beautiful with the fall foliage IMO.

Is this “travel post” just an excuse to show you gorgeous pictures of autumn in MN and try to convince you to visit? Pretty much. No shame, I love where I live and I love sharing it with you :P… Read More »

Visiting Glacier National Park in the Winter

April 10, 2018 by Claire Leave a Comment

Today I thought I’d share a travel post as I haven’t in quite a while! We saw some beautiful places on our road trip a couple of weeks ago, but the prettiest by far was Glacier National Park.

On our way back to Minnesota, we drove four full days with a two-day break in the middle to visit Glacier. It was winter, so much of the park was closed, but we found some open roads and trails to make the most of our short visit.… Read More »
