I used to be very anti-Valentine’s Day knowing that it’s just a consumer holiday. Okay, it has Christian origins–but in modern times, the celebration is mostly commercial.
Then I had kids and I want to celebrate all the holidays! Besides, it’s the point in winter here when the cold, dark weather starts to feel interminable, Christmas was a while ago and Easter is still far away. It’s fun to have something to celebrate, although I try to steer away from the commercialism as well as I can.

Every 90s kid had a boombox in their bedroom, right? My metallic blue boombox lived on the lower shelf of my nightstand. It was huge, ugly, and had awful audio quality. But it got the job done–playing my CDs and cassettes of music and stories–and there weren’t really alternatives at the time.
A topic that’s near and dear to my heart because well–I’ve been there.

We’re only halfway through the year, but I’ve somehow already met my goal of reading 20 books! I’m rather impressed with myself.
