What I Pack in My Hospital Bag (as a Mom of 3)

June 26, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

I was gifted Natracare organic maternity pads to try out. I was not obligated to share a review, and all opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve given birth in a hospital for three out of three kids, and while it’s not for everyone, it’s the right choice for some (including myself). Due to complications around my first labor and delivery, it’s where I feel most comfortable. I am lucky to have an OB who is very supportive of low-intervention births and a hospital nearby that is friendly to doulas–both musts for me personally.

We’re hoping for more kids, so with each birth, I like to think about how it went and what I’d do differently.… Read More »

Why I’m Not a Crunchy Mom Anymore

February 25, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

What exactly is a crunchy mom? Some definitions include: someone who raises their children in a natural lifestyle, someone who follows their intuition to parent rather than current trends or official recommendations, or a parent who prioritizes the health of their children and the environment. Some definitions include phrases like “liberal-leaning” while others call crunchy moms “crazy,” “anti-science” or “conspiracy theorists.”

Obviously, there’s not even one official definition, since much of the above is self-contradictory!

The stereotype of a crunchy mom has evolved considerably since the term became popular 15-20 years ago. The pandemic definitely fueled a large part of that change and popularized the idea. People who previously might not have been interested in holistic health, homesteading, medical freedom or alternative diets adopted those values.… Read More »

Living a Balanced Life: Use It Up, Wear It Out…

April 21, 2023 by Claire Leave a Comment

…Make it do or do without. I am full of inspiration to be thriftier and in the process more eco-friendly, as I’m reading a wonderful book right now called The Simple Home.

We cook (mostly) from scratch, take hand-me-downs, use up our food stores/art supplies/toiletries etc, and try to buy sales for everything from food to clothing to home improvement items. But there are many ways we could live a more frugal life and make better use of the money and resources available to us.… Read More »

Growing a Family & Friendships

April 19, 2023 by Claire Leave a Comment

8 months pregnant with little e, our first!

Especially in the past year, I’ve really started to feel the distance between most of my friends from “previous lives” (high school and college) and my current life and self. Most of them do not have kids and/or are unsure if they want any. I am guessing many new-ish parents can relate.

This is one area I was definitely wearing rose-tinted glasses when planning a family. Expecting that people who felt so close and supportive of us pre-kids, would continue to be close and supportive after having them. That’s not the case for most people.… Read More »

Living a Balanced Life: Me, Without Kids

April 15, 2023 by Claire Leave a Comment

Sometimes I get questions from family and friends as to why I don’t share more about the kids on the blog or social media. I could claim it’s for safety reasons, respecting their privacy or that I’m just maintaining the original purpose of the blog (a lifestyle, not parenting blog) but those are more benefits of not sharing much about them, not the why.

The more kids I have, the more I realize how important it is to continue to be someone outside of motherhood. I know many trad/evangelical influencers disagree with me on this. There is a LOT of content out there that elevates the idea of “dying to self” in motherhood and finding your entire purpose in your home and children. I really dislike that idea. Having kids doesn’t necessitate losing your sense of self.… Read More »
