A Tiny Organizational Hack for Kids Art Supplies

February 13, 2026 by Claire Leave a Comment

And I really can’t take credit for this one as I was inspired by my sister-in-law’s setup in Boston for her kids/my nephews 🙂

Our art and craft supplies have been a downright disaster for a couple of years now. Until recently, they lived in an old baby bathtub on the counter and were constantly spilling out into food prep areas or onto the floor. The scissors were always MIA–usually somewhere in my 1st grader’s bedroom–and clearing out used-up or broken things was an annoying and time-consuming project.… Read More »

The Best Kids Outdoor Gear for Cold Weather

November 11, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

We were gifted XTRATUF TUFS toddler boots to test out and review on the blog. As always, all opinions expressed are our own.

🎶 It’s that time of year 🎶… when I start to think about how I’m going to fit six sets of snow gear on our coat rack, and I think that I should reallyyy buy a washable rug for the entryway.

Living in Minnesota, we get to experience all the seasons in their natural beauty–and we also need all the gear to do that. I’ve tried out quite a few brands of kids’ gear through the years. Some have lasted and some haven’t worked well/have needed replacing after a kid or two. I’ve tried different price points (both purchased by myself and via hand-me-downs) and found where we can economize versus where it pays off to pay more.… Read More »

15 Nut-Free School & Summer Camp Snacks (That Are Actually Healthy)

May 1, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

nut-free-snack-ideas-title-imageI can be a bit of a health nut when it comes to food. I don’t love taking my kids on adventures with a backpack full of ultra-processed food. Sometimes, as a treat? Sure. (We bought donuts at the farmer’s market just last weekend :P) Every day? Not a habit I want to get into. Plus, have you seen the price tags on processed snacks lately? Yikes.

I’ve always found summer camps incredibly difficult to pack for, because there are SO many different allergy restrictions to be aware of. Last year, my oldest was in one camp where snacks had to be peanut-free, tree nut-free and egg-free. Then tack on our own family goals of no seed oils, minimal refined sugar/flour, and adding a healthy protein or fat to each snack. What’s a kid to eat?!… Read More »

12 Spring Books to Read with Toddlers

April 23, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

It’s finally spring and we are SO ready for all the gardening, warm weather sports, playdates, cookouts and more! I love that I can now open the window to air out the house every afternoon. And this weekend we’re headed to the farmer’s market for the first time since August!

When the seasons change, I love to change out the books in the kids’ shelves for seasonally-matched reads. We always have our favorites around–Richard Scarry books and Daniel Tiger among others–and I also like preparing the kids for upcoming activities by reading, too.

Here are a dozen of our favorite spring books for toddlers, including classics and some modern favorites. If you’re headed into fall/winter in your neck of the woods, check out my 12 wintry books to read with little kids post for some inspo :)… Read More »

Why I’m Not a Crunchy Mom Anymore

February 25, 2024 by Claire Leave a Comment

What exactly is a crunchy mom? Some definitions include: someone who raises their children in a natural lifestyle, someone who follows their intuition to parent rather than current trends or official recommendations, or a parent who prioritizes the health of their children and the environment. Some definitions include phrases like “liberal-leaning” while others call crunchy moms “crazy,” “anti-science” or “conspiracy theorists.”

Obviously, there’s not even one official definition, since much of the above is self-contradictory!

The stereotype of a crunchy mom has evolved considerably since the term became popular 15-20 years ago. The pandemic definitely fueled a large part of that change and popularized the idea. People who previously might not have been interested in holistic health, homesteading, medical freedom or alternative diets adopted those values.… Read More »
