Capsule Wardrobe Reflections: Learning By Wearing

June 29, 2025 by Claire Leave a Comment

This picture isn’t remotely from this year… it was taken on a beach walk at my grandpa’s cottage on Lake Huron in 2016. Nostalgia!

I was not blessed in the sense of style department, pretty much from birth. My mom has a home video of preschool-aged Claire happily jumping around the living room in messy curls, black and white checkered leggings, a pink dress with multicolored flowers on it, and yellow socks. That pretty much sums up my fashion life from ages 0 through 25 😛

It didn’t occur me until my late 20s that even if I wasn’t born stylish–and didn’t seem to develop that muscle during my teenage years, as I felt like many did–I could work on my personal style like any other project: trying new things, making mistakes and learning from them. So refining and adding to my wardrobe has been something I’ve been actively trying at for about three years now (hey, better late than never). … Read More »

How to Figure Out Your Personal Style

March 7, 2022 by Claire Leave a Comment

You can read part 1, part 2 and part 3 of my wardrobe revamp series here.

Something I realized after getting rid of two-thirds of my wardrobe? I didn’t actually know what my personal style was anymore. Sure, I knew what it wasn’t; but that didn’t exactly help me in building a new wardrobe.

When you’ve bounced from high school wannabe designer girl, to college party girl, to college-student-wearing-sweatpants-24/7, to budget maternitywear after getting pregnant at 23… you have some serious fashion confusion.… Read More »

Wardrobe Revamp, Part 3: Knickey Underwear Review

March 3, 2022 by Claire Leave a Comment

Just to clarify (hehe), this post is NOT sponsored by Knickey. I’m simply sharing a new-to-me product that I’ve tried and want to review for you!

Update 10/2023: My underwear purchased for this review is still going strong 18 months later. It basically looks like new! No holes, fraying, or stretched out elastic… Knickey is definitely a high-quality brand.

Last year, I decided to update my wardrobe for my new mom life. I sold or donated most of the things I bought in high school or college, and I’m in the process of rebuilding my wardrobe and refining my style to fit a 27-year-old mom of two.

However, while focusing on finding tops, jeans, dresses, etc. that I love–for a while I kind of forgot about the most essential wardrobe item: underwear. And yes, my Modest Millie self is totally cringing that I’m actually writing about this–but I think it will be helpful to anyone out there who finds themself in a similar, underwear-less situation.… Read More »

Part 2: On Aging, Motherhood, & Womanhood

July 21, 2021 by Claire Leave a Comment

I’m remaking my wardrobe and I promise, I promise, NEXT POST we’ll get to the specifics on that.

But first, I want to talk about getting older. (Not that I’m really that old.)

But before I was a mom, I saw mothers as “others.” I never understood the draw of momfluencers or of having children in general. Mom life seemed so boring to me. I wanted to see and read about trendy, self-indulgent topics like minimalism, self-care, or being a #girlboss. Moms didn’t have the same glamor as childless 20-somethings who traveled, socialized, wrote about self-discovery, and always looked put together.… Read More »

Redoing My Wardrobe for Mom Life, Part 1: Why?

June 26, 2021 by Claire Leave a Comment

mom-wardrobe-title-imageRecently, I shared a few of my favorite positive affirmations for moms on the blog. One of them goes like this: I deserve nice, functional things that are within my budget.

One of the most difficult areas of life for me to apply that truth? Clothing. I want to look put together. I aspire to owning a wardrobe full of quality pieces that flatter my complexion and figure, are easy to mix and match, easy to care for, and timeless.… Read More »
