Happy Monday, friends! I skipped blogging last Friday, so here’s my weekly recap a few days late.… Read More »
The Crunchy Mom is Out of Office…

We’ve had a few minor colds so far this school year, but everyone woke up this morning with the plague. Junky coughs, faucet-ing noses, absolutely exhausted–myself included.
After a decidedly non-crunchy day of almost no time outside (a brief walk in the cold was all anyone was up for), lots of TV and snacks on the couch, no one felt any better. In fact, everyone felt worse. So we headed to Target to grab some cold essentials: a humidifier, saline, lots and lots of tissues, cough syrup (Beekeeper’s Naturals for the kids–was so happy to find it there!), Vicks (because I’m out of my favorite natural alternative) and cough drops.
The kids were nearly asleep when their heads hit the pillows, and now I’m laid out on the couch after setting up the humidifier in the master bedroom and taking all the meds. The crunchy mom is out and survival mode mum is in at the moment.
Our Thanksgiving plans aren’t looking great right now… obviously it’s not appropriate to show up to a large gathering (especially one with other small children) when your family is all coughing uncontrollably. Or to go on our usual morning walk outside in the cold, dry air. I told Eric our backup is stay indoors, call family and eat pumpkin pie for dinner with a movie.
We have to make the best of what we have, right? Even if that’s a gross respiratory virus right before Thanksgiving.
Anyways–I’ll check back in later this week after the holiday, when we’ll (hopefully) be feeling better. Happy Thanksgiving, friends, however you’re celebrating!
xx Claire
How I Make My Kids’ Shutterfly Books
This is my favorite halfway-DIY Christmas gift that’s always a hit with my kids. Every year I make them memory books of their year, one per kid, and then I order them during Shutterfly’s Black Friday sales. They’re fun, inexpensive presents that get pulled off the shelf and browsed all year long.
Here are my best tips for making a memory book for your little(s), so they can look back on themselves through the years and remember their favorite times!… Read More »
Life Lately: Christmas Prep & Shorter Days
It’s about 4:30 in the afternoon and it’s already twilight outside here. Does anyone else feel more tired this time of year, whether or not it’s cold out? It was actually 63F this afternoon, and I’ve been out quite a bit (two walks to and from preschool, gone to the library and done preschool pickup too) so it’s definitely not the weather or even lack of outside time. I feel like I could hit the hay right now though!
Anyways, we’ve again had a busy busy week so let’s chat about all the recent things!… Read More »
12 Winter Books to Read with Little Kids
We had our first snow a couple of weeks ago in Minnesota, so it’s safe to say that winter is on the way. How better to celebrate than by reading all the little kids winter books? (Non-lyrical Christmas music is allowed in our household, but nothing truly holly jolly until after Thanksgiving… idk why, it’s just the rule!)
I think we’ve read every book about the seasons and different holidays at our library. We are huge fans of Jan Brett (not so much Beatrix Potter–some of those are a little creepy). My olders also love books about the natural changes that take place as the seasons change, especially when we can get outside and see it in action later!… Read More »
