The heavens opened up over the Twin Cities yesterday. It rained all afternoon and started up again overnight. I woke up at 5am to rain pounding on the roof, thunder crashing overhead, and… the sound of my baby crying because he had woken up, too. Sigh.
I’m a cool, rainy weather person–one of my most popular blog posts is about how I hate hot weather. And there is nothing better than the smell of the earth/trees/grass after a heavy rain. Recently I found out this smell has a name: petrichor. I love learning new-to-me words and for some reason, that one seems like the perfect fit for its definition!
Once the rain had slowed to a drizzle this morning, my 4-year-old and I popped out to see how our backyard garden was growing. And to take some pictures! It’s such a treat to have a child who enjoys the same things as you.
Anyways, we found plenty of purple beans and tomatoes to pick. We admired all five of our growing pumpkins, sighed with relief that there were no zucchini to harvest (I have two gigantic ones in the fridge) and searched for ripe strawberries hiding under the leaves.
It was too wet for the nice camera today, so smartphone photos had to do!

I’m trying to sprinkle in more daily life posts amongst my “useful content” ones. It’s what makes a blog, a blog, in my opinion. I love to read about the little details of other people’s lives! (Or maybe I’m just a Nosy Nellie? :P)
